WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — Ranked in the top 50 greatest golf destinations in the world by Golf Digest in 2000, Williamsburg has gained popularity for its top quality courses. Among the many options are Colonial Williamsburg’s Golden Horseshoe Golf Club designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. and his son, Rees. Condé Nast Traveler recently named this resort one of the 50 best in the nation and the Golden Horseshoe has been awarded Golf Magazine’s Gold Medal and ranked 5-star by Golf Digest. The Golden Horseshoe is situated adjacent to Colonial Williamsburg’s Historic Area adjacent to the Williamsburg Inn and Williamsburg Lodge.

Ford’s Colony Country Club offers 54 holes of world-class golf. Its three courses are consistently ranked in the best of Virginia and ranked 4.5 stars by Golf Digest. The club’s restaurant, The Dining Room, is one of the finest in the country, the only country-club restaurant to ever garner the AAA Five-Diamond Award.

Kingsmill Resort & Spa, Virginia’s largest golf resort, boasts three 18-hole championship courses and a nine-hole, par-3 golf course. In 2005, the River Course opened after a multi-million dollar renovation by legend Pete Dye. The River Course plays host to the Michelob ULTRA Open, a top LPGA event. Visitors can enjoy a variety of golf instruction opportunities from lessons to multi-day clinics, women’s golf schools and youth camps. Kingsmill is located on 2,900 acres along the James River.

The Tradition Golf Glub at Kiskiack is one of Williamsburg’s newest, having opened in 1997. Awarded 4 stars by Golf Digest, Kiskiack is set along a scenic ridge featuring gently rolling hills and large undulating greens, pristine lakes and beautiful panoramic views. The Tradition Golf Club at Stonehouse, ranked 4.5 stars by Golf Digest and the best new upscale public course in the nation in 1996. It is regarded as one of the most beautiful mountain-style courses in America.

Williamsburg National Golf Club, a Nicklaus design masterpiece has a Golf Digest 4-star rating and has been named “one of the 10 Best Courses you can play in Virginia.”
